Today was the second day of the dig and the foundation is taking shape. They also set up the boards to pour the footers tomorrow morning. Once we were able to envision where the the house was going to sit and where each room would be we were happy we picked the lot we did. Our view will always be of the pond and woods off our future deck or patio.
We also got to watch them brick both our neighbors houses. We also went inside both houses and looked around. I just can't wait to get out of this apartment and the progress being made lets me see a light at the end of the tunnel. Here are some pictures from today.

Let The Build Begin
They dug out part of our lot today and will finish tomorrow. While we were there the city inspector came to sign off on the utility connections (storm drains and sewer connection). He walked the property and talked with the guys from the excavating company. Once he approved everything he came over introduced himself and asked if we were the new owners. He then explained why he was there and what to expect in the next few days. One of the guys from the excavating company also introduced himself and explained what he was doing today. All in all it turned out to be a very nice day to see the process start to take shape.
We also took a drive out to Avon and visited the Ravenna model out there. It does't hold a candle to the North Royalton Ravenna model. I didn't like the cabinet choice along with the choice in wood floors. Color wise it just didn't seem to match (pictures to follow). It just didn't show well for me in many ways. I also didn't care for the master bath tile, cabinet and granite choices.
We also drove to another community to see our siding color choice. It's a new color for Ryan Homes (per our sales rep) in this area and not too many people have chosen it yet. I was very nervous but once we saw it on a house and knowing the shutter and door color along with the stone we picked I think I made a good choice.
Very hard to tell from the picture above but it's a maple spice cabinet with a cherry oak flooring.

The Snow Won't Stop The Dig
Got a text today from our PM stating that the dig would start tomorrow. I thought for sure the snow would delay us, but I was happy to hear other wise. I'm only off work this week and then back to Chicago every week for work.

Building House #2 The Ravenna
We closed on our deal to build our second home yesterday 12/16/2011. Our dig date has been set for 12/28/2011 and it's on from there. This process can't go fast enough for me. I'm stuck in an apartment that's only 800 square feet. We have boxes every where and it's very very cramped.
We chose to go with Ryan Homes again for many reasons including design, construction and reputation. I left nothing out on this build. Unlike our last home we built with them in 2004, I don't want to update or remodel anything after we build. So we put in granite counter tops and other things in the kitchen that were considered non standard but a must have for us.
I created this blog to document the journey and allow every to share in this experience with us. Once finished this home will see many many gatherings with friends and family!
